There's a diagram.It shows something of home computers used by a group of young people.
We asked thirty young people between fourteen ang eighteen.We asked them how much timethey usually spent on their computers in a week,but we were interested in what they used the computers for.
The usual time spent on a computer in a week was about twelve hours,with the highest user about thirty-two,and the lowest user about five hours.
All the children said they usually used computers to play games.Fourteen children told us they did some word-processing at times.Only two of them said computers served their lessons,ang eight people told us they kept addresses ang phone numbers on thire computers.Only three people said they were learning to make computers programs ang nobody looked up databases.None of them used computers for any other use.
The results show that computer use is quite high between 14-18 years old.They also show quite clearly that computers are regarded by most young people as game machines.The only other uses are forword-processing ang keeping address lists.It seems to us that,thougt computers are common in the homes of young people,they have not yet become useful in everyday life.
