SOME of London's famous places, such as Greenwich Observatory and Hyde Park, will be used for the London Olympics in 2012.Will they return to their original state (状态) after the Games? What will London do to deal with exhaust gas (尾气) from the city's cars,as there is also the same problem for the Beijing Games?
These were some of the questions asked by three Beijing students when they met Tessa Jowell at British Council (英国使馆文化教育处) last week.
Jowell is a senior member of the British government. She is responsible for the London 2012 Olympics. She came to China to see how Beijing is preparing for next year's Games.
"We are interested to hear how London is planning to make their 2012 Games green," said Ding Shanshan from the High School Attached to Tsinghua University.
As Young Climate (气候) Change Awareness Ambassadors (大使),Ding visited London along with two other ambassadors,Wu Di and Jin Yunan last summer.During the four-day trip, they found British students care more about climate change than their Chinese peers (同龄人).So they decided to raise awareness (意识) about the environment in their schools when they returned.
Wu from Beijing No 8 Middle School tells his classmates to shut off their computers when they are not using them.
Ding is always the last one to leave the classroom during the breaks to turn off the lights.
And Jin Yunan from Beijing No 80 High School arranged a public showing of Al Gore's movie on global warming on his campus. Then he encouraged every class to make a billboard (布告栏) to show what students could do to help solve the problem.
"Some people tell me to give up because an individual (个人) like me won't make any difference," Jin said.
"But if you keep on trying,if you keep on showing them both scientific fact and evidence (证据) from daily life, they will finally listen to you."
