上帝对他说：“来吧！我让你看看什么是地狱。”他们走进一个房间。一群人围着一大锅肉汤，但每个人看上去一脸饿相，瘦骨伶仃。他们每个人都有一只可以够到锅里的汤勺，但汤勺的柄比他们的手臂还长，自己没法把汤送进嘴里，只能望“汤”兴叹，无可奈何。
“来吧！我再让你看看天堂。”上帝把这个人领到另一个房间。这里的一切和刚才那个房间没什么不同，一锅汤、一群人、一样的长柄汤勺，但大家都身宽体胖，正在快乐地歌唱着幸福。
“为什么？”这个人不解地问，“为什么地狱的人喝不到肉汤，而天堂的人却能喝到？”上帝微笑着说：“很简单，在这儿，他们都会喂别人。”
